Electrical connector is designed to connect two ends of an electric wire by crimping. This type of connection is safe and permanent, so it is commonly used. The connector can be made of copper, aluminum or it can be a combination of these two metals. The division of connectors depending on the material they are made of, is not the only difference between them. Find out more about electrical connectors produced by ERKO.
Copper electrical connector
An example of an electrical connector Cu is KLA. It is normally made of galvanically tinned copper, but it is possible to order a non-tinned version on request. It is available in sizes corresponding with the conductor cross-section from 0,5 mm2 to 400 mm2. The bigger the size the stronger tool is recommended by the manufacturer. The connector can have polyamide insulation, thanks to this solution the thermal resistance is greater in temperatures from 40°C to +125°C, an example of such an electrical connector is KLE. We should not forget about reducing connectors such as : KLR or KLS. They make it possible to connect two wires with different cross-section e.g. the electric cable with the cross-section of 120 mm2 on the wire with the cross-section of 35 mm2. We can also distinguish a parallel connector KLB for the wire with the cross-section from 0,5 mm2 to 120 mm2.
Aluminum electrical connector
An example of an aluminum electrical connector for single-strand and multi-strand wires is ALD. It is made according to DIN 46267 part.2. Another product is a tight reducing connector ALS for wires with the cross-section from 35 mm2 to 625 mm2. Another example of aluminum connectors is a reducing connector ALR for crimping on aluminum wires both single- and multi-strand with the conductor cross-section from 16 mm2 to 625 mm2.
Aluminum- copper electrical connector
Another group of products are the bimetallic connectors, in other words made both of copper and aluminum. They have thermal resistance up to 300°C. It is worth mentioning the ACL connector for wires with the cross-section from 10 mm2 to 150 mm2. Among these products you can also find a connector with the pin ACB for wire with the cross-section from 16 mm2 to 300 mm2.
The remaining connectors
Electrical connectors presented above are crimped on wires with the help of manual hand presses or other crimping tools. However, in the assortment of ERKO you can also find shear off screw connectors and terminals , which are an interesting alternative for crimping. It is all about tightening the shear off screws on wires. This technology is more universal than crimping , because one connector can be used for different types of wires and with the wide range of cross-sections.
