Manual hand press is the simplest crimping tool for crimping cable terminals and connectors on wires. It is used for crimping of cable terminals on Al and Cu wires both single and multi-strand. The press could have a non-exchangeable die or exchangeable dies. If the dies are exchangeable the use of the tool is increased. The manufacturer determines which tool should be used for crimping of the given cable terminal and connector.
Hand crimping tools – examples
Normally we can distinguish hand presses, crimping pliers, pincers, crimpers
An example of unique crimping tool is crimper PK 95, it is designed to crimp overhead line connectors Al and AFL. It is compatible with dies type SK ; the wire cross-section is 16 ÷ 95 mm2.
Crimping pliers ETA 66 are used for crimping cable terminals without insulation: ring terminals KOA, spade terminals KNA and pin terminals KWA on wires with the cross-section from 0,14 to 6 mm2.They are also used for crimping cable end-sleeves with and without insulation: TA, TE, TV and TP. However, this tool is not recommended
for intensive work.
ERKO has in its offer traditional crimping pliers and front crimping pliers. Crimping pliers T 3 are for crimping cable end-sleeves on wires with the cross-section 0,25 ÷ 2,5 mm; they have single-component PCV insulation on grips. Crimping pliers T 16 have similar features, but this tool is for crimping cable end-sleeves on wires with the cross-section up to 16 mm2. Front crimping pliers TC 6 are also used for crimping cable end-sleeves on wires with the cross-section up to 6 mm2.
The offer of hand presses is also very interesting. Manual hand presses are most often used for medium intensive installation works. It is worth paying attention to the wire cross-section on which the cable terminals and connectors are to be crimped and if the dies are exchangeable. The crimping tool that is most often chosen is hand press PR 33. Thanks to the exchangeable dies it can be used for crimping different types of cable terminals with and without insulation. This tool guarantees high repetitiveness and precision of crimping, dies are easily exchangeable, and two-component insulated grip is very handy, the ratcheting mechanism allows it to make less effort while maintaining the same crimping force, and the eccentric controls the force.
