Cable cutter are one of the most common tools needed for everyday jobs . For cutting cables you can use not only cable cutter but also hydraulic heads. When choosing shears it is very important to decide what we might need them for. In these case we can decide whether we need traditional shears or such shears that allow us to work under the voltage of up to 1000V. What questions should you answer before you decide?
- Is the tool suitable for working under voltage?
This is a very important question. It is better to assume from the beginning that working under voltage is an advantage. The work becomes much safer.
- What cables can be cut?
The shears are designed for cutting copper and aluminum wires with different diameter. RC 5 is suitable for cutting Al. and Cu wires with outer diameter to 5 mm and steel cable to 2 mm. Whereas, RC 13 can cut Al and Cu wires with the outer diameter up to 13 mm and with the cross-section up to 60 mm2, and RC 27 cuts Al and Cu wires with the diameter up to 27 mm and with the cross-section to 150 mm2. The difference is significant in this case.
- Is easiness and simplicity of cutting important?
If you do not need to apply much strength to perform the process of cutting it is much more convenient. RC 5 cable shears have lever optimizes the force required to cut. We require less force also in case of such shears as RC 13, RC 27, RCO 32, RC 38. It is a huge advantage.
- Is the convenience of using the tools important?
Some shears have a two-component and profiled grips allowing a more convenient operation. Additionally, this grip prevents the tool from slipping.
- Are the blades durable ?
The more durable blade the better. Thanks to this the shears will last longer. The blade can be:
- profiled , making it easy to cut ,
- of special alloyed steel treated by heat and grinded,
- of special hardened tool steel,
- of special hardened steel.
- What are the additional features of the tool ?
Some tools are designed for cutting without cable crushing or deformation. They can have special blades profile that enables one-handed cutting. The arms may have adjustable angle, which allows you to adjust the width of the handle and work in tight spaces. The blade can also be exchangeable as it is in case of RC 54S.
