Cable connectors and shear off screw connectors differ from one another in many aspects namely because they are made in completely different technology. They are built in a different way and they are mounted differently. Learn about the differences.
- The structure
Cable terminals and cable connectors in crimping system depending on the type may have different shape. However at the first glance the difference between the traditional connector in the crimping system and the shear off screw connector is visible. What are the differences? Shear off screw connector have additional shear off screws . Cable terminals for crimping are made of copper or aluminum or they can be bimetallic, whereas the shear off screw connectors from ERKO are made only from aluminum Shear off screws do not have polyamide insulation.
- The use
The basic use is the same they are designed to connect wires. However, in case of shear off screw connectors the same type of cable connector can be used for crimping on wires with different conductor structure( copper or aluminum) and with wide range of cross-sections. Cable connectors for crimping are not so universal. In this case the wire cross-section is far smaller for a particular terminal and the conductor structure is clearly defined. The cable connector made of copper cannot be used for aluminum wires and the other way round.
- Mounting method
Also in this case we will also choose shear off screw connectors. The connector is mounted in such a way that the wire is inserted into the hole. Then we use the holder UZS 1 to hold the screws firmly during tightening until they break. It is done with ratchet handle and allen key. Clean and fast. You need only one tool . In case of crimping depending on the conductor cross-section and the type of connector or terminal you need to use different tools. The whole process is not really difficult however a little bit more complicated.
